Basis KH Liquid Buffer is a high quality, multi-component blended true buffering system designed to raise the alkalinity or buffering capacity of marine fish and reef aquariums and automatically regulate the pH. It will hold pH stable over a wide range of conditions providing for the safety of the entire system. Proper control of pH is one of the most critical functions of a marine fish or reef aquarium. If you only measure one parameter of your aquarium, measure the alkalinity. If pH is allowed to drop due to decay of organic matter, over saturation with carbon dioxide or any type of acid addition, then the animals will suffer and if it drops too much, they will become ill or die. Continuum recommends that you maintain an alkalinity level of 7 to 11 dKH (2.5 to 4 meq/L) and a pH of 8.3.
